Building a Foundation for Reconciliation:
Braiding –Relationships, Community, and Trust
Sweetgrass is believed to be the sacred hair of O’gushnan, Mother Earth, and is often braided, with the three sections representing mind, body, and soul. Some First Nations believe the three sections of the braid represent love, kindness and honesty.
Sweetgrass is used in smudges, healing or talking circles because it has a healing effect - its smoke is believed to purify thoughts and the environment and eliminate bad or negative thoughts.

Braiding: Relationships,
Community and Trust.
With the symbolism of braided sweetgrass, the theme of this session is Braiding: Relationships, Community and Trust.
This third installment of the Building a Foundation for Reconciliation series will continue the conversation of how architecture, engineering, construction, and related industries can honour the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action 92 through better understanding of Indigenous history, culture, and empathetic design.
This foundational session will help industry professionals gain a deeper understanding of how to braid meaningful actions of reconciliation into their projects, and how they can be better allies to support the self-determination of Indigenous Nations.
