The West Block of the Parliament Hill buildings in Ottawa underwent significant restoration and modernization to meet contemporary needs, integrating cutting-edge technology and multimedia capabilities.

A striking feature of the renovation was the construction of the courtyard’s glass roof, which adds valuable usable space. The sophisticated roof design includes multiple layers of structure and glazing, including triple-glazed units and operable sun shades to control the levels of light and heat entering the House of Parliament.

These design choices not only enhance comfort but also contribute to the project’s sustainability goals.

RJC Engineers played a crucial role in two key aspects of this project.

First, we conducted a third-party review of the tender documents for Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), ensuring that the procurement approach and documentation were ready for competitive bidding, delivering optimal project outcomes.RJC was also involved as the Engineer of Record for the steel and glass roof structure, working in conjunction with the specialty glazing contactor, Seele, who was awarded the project.

Our involvement as Engineer of Record for the enclosure made us integral to both the design execution and the successful construction of this complex project.
