Location: Nanaimo, BC

Start Date: Immediately

Salary Range: $64,000 - $80,000 (Dependent on experience). This position is also eligible for overtime pay (paid at time and a half), discretionary performance bonuses, and holiday bonuses, increasing the estimated total compensation wage range to $70,000 - $100,000.

Candidate Profile

As a Structural Design Engineer, you will be faced with a myriad of challenges that will require you to be a versatile and creative thinker. A strong communicator with a driving passion for what you do, you work directly with our clients to provide cost effective, pragmatic and imaginative solutions. You don’t shy away from a challenge and enjoy tackling a new problem. You are comfortable working independently but are also a strong team player, looking to those around you to collaborate and problem solve.

The Nanaimo office is a rapidly growing team with opportunity for advancement as the team continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare detailed structural design of buildings composed of primarily concrete, structural steel, and wood structural elements. Building types include commercial, residential, office, institutional and sports/recreation buildings.
  • Assist with development of preliminary structural design concepts
  • Work with the project team from conceptual and preliminary stages of design through to completion
  • Ensure quality compliance for your engineering design work by maintaining design/checking notes
  • Provide construction support to active projects, including answering contractor questions and on occasion conducting site visits to review structural work.


Professional Qualifications & Experience

  • Civil/Structural Engineering Degree from an accredited university – courses in concrete, steel, wood design preferred. It would be an asset to have a Masters level degree with exposure to dynamics of structures, seismic response of structures and seismic design of structures.
  • Registered Engineer-In-Training OR eligible for registration with EGBC
  • 0-3 years’ of structural engineering experience.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

New engineers are trained and supported though our custom on-boarding program, including mentoring, monthly in-house technical presentations, and regular lunch-and-learn seminars.
