SALARY RANGE: $75,000 – $90,000 (dependent on experience)
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The Project Accountant supports the finance team in providing accurate and timely information to manage the financial health and accounting integrity of RJC projects. Reporting to the Operations Finance Controller, the Project Accountant actively performs financial accounting functions throughout the project life cycle: revenue accounting, internal control, variance analyses, reporting and supporting management decision making.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform project accounting services throughout the project life cycle (initiation to closure), including month end close, general ledger accounts reconciliations, variance analyses, and project reporting
- Perform project revenue recognition calculations using percentage-of-completion (POC) and time-and-material (T&M) methods
- Analyze revenue, work-in-progress (WIP), unbilled revenue, deferred revenue, account receivable and holdback transactions
- Responsible for maintaining internal controls over project Estimates-At-Completion (EAC), Estimates-To-Completion, fees, contract values, and project margins
- Support project maintenance activities across the organization including setup, closure, conversions, and deletions in the project management and accounting systems, as well as management of appropriate roles and security within project accounting systems
- Support project billing and accounts receivable teams, manage invoice format types both existing and proposed, calculate integrated project delivery (IPD) special billing rates
- Responsible for maintaining integrity between financial and project operational data between the project management system and project accounting system
- Collaborate with Operations and other Finance Team members towards effective and efficient project accounting and reporting
- Perform project time and labor costing, including mass time transfers for project changes/reclasses
- Responsible for the accurate and appropriate accounting of subconsultant costs, optimizing systems and process to gather and validate financial information with various finance and operations teams
- Support Integrated Project Delivery audits and annual financial audits
- Provide back-up support for other Finance Team members
- Perform other duties as may be assigned time to time by the Operations Controller
Experience:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
- 5+ years of financial accounting and reporting experience in a fast-paced, projects-based environment, preferably in engineering and architecture or similar industry
- Experience in working with complex financial models, extracting and consolidating data from various sources, and converting to meaningful analyses
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, experienced with Power BI is an asset.
- Experience working with ERP systems and project management applications
- Good understanding of relational databases and experience using Microsoft Power Platform to build reports, automation and reporting efficiencies
- Strong knowledge of relevant accounting standards and good understanding of internal control
