RJC’s Vancouver office is seeking an engaged and committed Construction Field Review Representative to support our Building Enclosure and Structural Restoration Team. SALARY RANGE: $63,000 - $80,000 (dependent on experience)
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a Construction Field Review Representative, responsible for review of on-site work on a wide variety of projects. As a Construction Field Review Representative, you will be faced with a myriad of challenges that require you to be a versatile and creative thinker. The successful candidate will be comfortable dealing with clients, communicating with contractors, and working in a team-based environment. The focus of this position will be site review and testing of building enclosure components and structural restoration on concrete, wood frame, and mass-timber projects.
The successful candidate will review construction documents and communicate effectively with the project team. The role involves independent scheduling, frequent communication with supervisors and stakeholders, and verifying General Contractor adherence to contractual obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Working under the direction of senior staff members, perform field review of exterior building enclosure components including roofs, exterior wall and glazing assemblies and below grade of buildings under construction.
• Navigate through construction documents for a project to acquire answers and locate possible future issues and inform senior staff members of required answers.
• Independently schedule their day without interaction with senior staff members.
• Under limited direction, rely on extensive experience and independent judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Conduct field testing such as controlled water testing of horizontal and vertical building enclosure components.
• Assist with water and air infiltration testing of glazing systems; assist with whole building air tightness testing of existing and new buildings.
• Provide on the job training to new employees.
• Perform Roofing Contractor’s Association of British Columbia (RCABC) Roofstar Guarantee observation reports, including 2, 5, 8, and 12-year performance reviews. This includes attending training to meet the requirements in order to perform these reviews independently.
• Review shop drawings and assist design team in reviewing and responding to site inquires.
• Represent RJC at job site meetings with contractors, owners, consultants and other project stakeholders.
• Prepare field review reports and keep up to date with project communication including supplemental instructions (SIs) and Requests for Information RFI-s.
• Assist Project Engineers in developing budgets for field review activities and monitor over the course of construction.
• Coordinate RJC’s work with other disciplines.
• Bring site and design issues to the attention of the RJC design team.
• The field representative will not be responsible for construction means, methods, techniques, sequences or procedures, contractor compliance with safety programs or procedures associated with the General Contractor’s execution of the scheduled work as outlined in the General Conditions for the project.
Ideal Candidate will posses:

Experience:
• 10+ years in the construction industry.
• IIBEC Registered Roof Observer (RRO) or Registered Roof Consultant (RRC) is an asset.
• RCABC Accepted Observer is an asset.
• Trades Qualification (TQ) Certificate is an asset.
• Experience in site review is desired, but not necessary.
• Registered or eligible to register with ASTTBC or EGBC is an asset.
• Previous construction experience an asset, as would CAD/BIM experience.
• Experience in construction and/or in the consulting field is an asset.
• Must have valid BC drivers license and own dependable transportation (will be reimbursed for mileage and parking charges).
